About this course
Workforce Safety Training is a foundational safety orientation built for food manufacturing environments, where employees move between production floors, cold storage, sanitation areas, and shipping docks in a single shift. The course introduces the core hazard categories found in most food facilities — slips, trips, and falls, moving equipment, chemical exposure, and manual material handling — and teaches employees how to recognize and report them before they cause an injury.
The regulatory foundation for this training is Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act, commonly known as the General Duty Clause, which requires every employer to keep the workplace "free from recognized hazards that are causing or are likely to cause death or serious physical harm." Because many day-to-day hazards in a food plant are not addressed by a single OSHA standard, the General Duty Clause — along with topic-specific standards under 29 CFR 1910 — is the legal backbone this orientation is built around.
This course is designed for all employees, including new hires during onboarding and existing staff as an annual refresher. It works well as the first module in a broader safety curriculum, giving employees the shared vocabulary and baseline awareness they need before moving into standard-specific training such as Hazard Communication, Lockout/Tagout, or Bloodborne Pathogens.
After completing this course, learners will be able to identify the most common hazard categories in a food manufacturing facility, understand their right and responsibility to report unsafe conditions, describe basic emergency and injury-reporting procedures, and explain how OSHA's General Duty Clause applies to their daily work.
